Field notes from the kitchen window

Sound familiar?

Note 1: Just a blur

A flash of red lands on the feeder. By the time you find your phone and your glasses, it's gone.

Note 2: Who was that?

Finch or sparrow? Downy or hairy woodpecker? The guidebook is in the other room and the bird won't wait.

Note 3: You miss the best part

The busiest hour at the feeder is early morning, or while you're at the store, at work or visiting the grandkids.

The fix

A camera that waits by the feeder, so you don't have to.

  • Blur
A sharp 4MP photo and video of every visitThe lens sits right above the perch, close to the birds. Each visit sends a photo and a short clip to your phone.
  • Who
The species name, in plain EnglishTurn on bird ID in the app and each visitor is labeled with its common and Latin name. Bird ID is an optional app plan.
  • Missed
Every visit saved while you're awayClips are stored on the included microSD. The solar panel keeps the battery topped up, so there's nothing to remember.

How it works

A day at your feeder, in your pocket.

This is what the FinchCam app shows. Each visit arrives with a photo and the time, and with bird ID on, the species. Tap any visit to open its field-guide plate.

    Questions

    Questions, answered

    How long does shipping take?

Shipping is free in the US. Orders ship in 1–2 business days and are delivered in 7–12 business days. You get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships.

What if it's not right for us?

You have 30 days to return it. Write to hello@finchcam.com and we'll walk you through it.

    Is there a warranty?

Every FinchCam comes with a 1-year warranty. If something stops working, we repair or replace it.

    How can I pay?

With Shop Pay you can pay in 4 interest-free installments. We also accept all major cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

    Do I need a subscription?

Not for the basics. Live view, motion alerts and recording to the microSD card work without one. Automatic species ID and cloud history are optional plans in the app.

    Will squirrels steal the seed?

They will try. FinchCam has a hard shell and a covered hopper, and you can mount it away from fences and branches. A baffle on the pole helps a lot. No feeder is completely squirrel-proof, and you will probably get a few funny squirrel clips too.

How far from Wi-Fi can it be?

Up to about 30 ft from your router works best, depending on walls and windows. If your yard is farther, a simple Wi-Fi extender near a window helps. FinchCam uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Does it work in snow and cold?

Yes. FinchCam is built for outdoor use in rain and cold, and has night vision. On short winter days the solar panel charges less, so you may need an occasional top-up with the USB-C cable.

Can my parents use it without tech skills?

Yes. Once it's on Wi-Fi, the app sends photos on its own. There is nothing to press. If you need help with setup, email us and we'll guide you step by step.

You can also share the app account with the whole family, so you see the same birds your parents see.
